Editorial policy

Last updated 14 October 2026

This policy explains how every page on TravelInSL is made, checked and kept up to date.

Sources first

We only write from sources we have registered and checked: official Sri Lankan and foreign government websites, official tourism sources and open data such as OpenStreetMap. Before we use a source, we confirm that its terms allow it and that its robots.txt allows our crawler. We do not copy text from other travel blogs, guidebooks, review sites or other creators' videos. The full list is on our sources page.

How a page is drafted

  1. Our crawler reads the registered sources, politely and no more than once every few seconds per site, and keeps a dated copy of each page.
  2. An AI model drafts the page using only the text from those sources. It is not allowed to add places, prices, dates or rules that are not in them.
  3. A second automated check lists every factual claim in the draft and matches it to the source text. Anything that cannot be matched is flagged.
  4. A person reads the draft, fixes or removes every flagged claim, and approves it. Nothing is published without this approval.

Facts that change

Ticket prices, fees, entry rules, timetables and festival dates are stored once, together with the exact sentence from the source and the date it was confirmed. Pages show these values with an "as of" date. When a source changes, the new value is checked by a person before it replaces the old one, and every page that uses it is updated at once. Each page shows when its facts or sources were last checked.

What we will not publish

  • Invented first-person experiences, reviews or testimonials.
  • Statistics or quotes that do not come from a source.
  • Medical or legal advice. For visas, health and safety we point you to the official source.
  • Content that promotes drugs, adult services or drink promotions. Nightlife listings focus on the event, the music and the venue, with practical safety notes.

Dates on pages

The "Updated" date changes only when the information changes, never for cosmetic edits.

Events

Events are listed only after review, re-checked with the organizer or an official source shortly before they happen, and labelled with how they were confirmed. Cancelled or postponed events stay visible with a clear notice until their original date. Paid listings are always labelled Sponsored.

Corrections

If something is wrong or out of date, please tell us through the contact form.

We check the source, correct the page, and update its date. Significant corrections to safety or entry information are made as a priority.
